Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.
I want to introduce my friend Mimi. My last blog featured another Mimi. I believe this is a double portion of love that God has sent into my life. Double Mimi’s, double the love. I couldn’t be happier to have them both in my life.
I did a photo shoot of Mimi Jacquez and her family in December of 2018 and left feeling like something very special happened that day. Joy overflowed in my heart. Little did I know what was to come and the continued joy that I would experience by getting to know Mimi and her family.
She lives in my neighborhood which makes it very convenient when I need an extra set of hands at a photo shoot. There’s goodness in her hands and beauty in her heart.
I asked Mimi to come assist me on a photo shoot with the five kids under age six that I would be photographing. I was so worried about trying to get at least one good shot for mom where they all look at the camera. Mimi was exactly what I needed that day. As we drove to the shoot, she kept my mind from over thinking and worrying but she did make me cry. What she told me that day, would make your heart break.
Mimi is a 14 year old missionary. What’s makes Mimi special is the love for God she carries in her heart. Love isn’t just saying you’re a Christian but being a Christian. I couldn’t believe my ears as she told me about the encounters she had in Guatemala. She told me about how when the elders become a burden, they are driven out to a remote location and dumped on the side of the road, abandoned like trash. How a set of teen boys were selling their sister for money. Tears began to well up in my eyes. I couldn’t imagine treating my grandparents that way. My heart ached for a young girl I didn’t even know, thinking of the fear and hurt she must feel, being sold like her life meant nothing. My heart even hurt for her brothers, who didn’t know any better, who grew up with that being a way of life.
Mimi is about to take her second trip to Guatemala this August with Hope of Life in Guatemala. Her trip is set to have her return the day before her freshman year in high school. When she told me that, I realized how selfish I was at age 14. I would have spent the day before freshman year thinking about finding my way to my new classes, who I would sit with at lunch and what I was wearing that week. Not Mimi, she will be returning from Guatemala; from building a chicken coop and providing chickens and a goat to a family, teaching hygiene education for a village with spiritual encouragement, delivering food bags to villages, helping elderly and special needs homes and building clothes lines for families who provide orphan style care to others in need.
She has seven days left to raise the money for her trip. It’s $2,000 and she needs a bit more to reach that goal. I want to ask if you would help Mimi to make her second missionary trip. Please help a teenager who is spending a portion of her summer to share love through actions to spread the news of God’s love to others. I am attaching her Venmo account. If you are willing to donate to help Mimi make her trip, I would appreciate it. Any amount will help her, whether it's $2, $20 or $200 dollars.
Below are some of the photos she shared with me from her last mission trip. I can’t wait to hear about her new experiences when she returns.
I'm thankful for Mimi and all she does to help me and others around her. Thank you Mimi for being light in the world! Good luck on your mission trip!
